Ghazi Filfil was planning a business trip to Germany this month. That was before an Israeli tank shell crashed into the top storey of his five-floor house one night last week, wounding him, his wife and all his nine children.
Raed al-Mabhuh, 13, has severe pelvic injuries and his face has erupted from toxaemia that set in after both his legs were amputated. Doctors have little hope for him.
A 13-year-old girl admitted three days ago is expected to be severely brain-damaged if she survives neurosurgery for a bullet wound to her head. Another girl, one year older, has developed a fever after her small intestine was ruptured and her spleen removed.
The Palestine Centre for Human Rights, in its weekly report to October 7, listed 74 Palestinians killed in the operation, including 37 civilians, of whom 23 were children. Some 300 people were wounded. The death toll has since risen to nearer 100. In the intensive care unit at Shifa, 10 of 12 beds are occupied by victims of bullet and shrapnel wounds.
