His Excellency

September 24, 2004 by element115
The UN moderator introduced Bush yesterday, this way:
"On behalf of the General Assembly, I have the honor to welcome to the United Nations "His Excellency" Mr. George W. Bush, the president of the United States of America and to invite him to address the Assembly."
The term 'Excellency' should be used only for royalty, and never for an elected person representing a so-called free Republic - but then Bush wasn't elected, so maybe the moderator was only catering to another of this outlaw's fantasies?

Look up the word "excellency" before assuming it is a royal title because it's not. Excellency is a honorific used NOT for royalty but republican heads of state and government, governors, governors-general ambassadors, cabinet ministers, secretaries-general, and bishops. It is not a title of royalty; in fact, the title is mostly by elected officials such as presidents, prime ministers, and cabinet ministers. Royalty uses titles such as "majesty", "royal highness", "imperial highness", "serene highness" or simply "highness" and not "excellency" . . . . Look up the word in a Dictionary or a Protocol book.

P.S. President Bush would have been introduced in the General Assembly by the elected official HIS EXCELLENCY the President of the General Assembly and not a moderator.
