Secret papers reveal slow death of Middle East peace process

A cache of thousands of pages of confidential Palestinian records covering more than a decade of negotiations with Israel and the US has been obtained by al-Jazeera TV and shared exclusively with the Guardian. The papers provide an extraordinary and vivid insight into the disintegration of the 20-year peace process, which is now regarded as all but dead.

Shows how supine the PA is and proves that Edward Said was right - by signing the Oslo Accords, the PLO forfeited any claim to be a genuine national liberation movement and was satisfied at being a security subcontractor to the Israelis.

And people wonder why Palestinians saw Hamas as a more attractive leadership than Fateh, without evening having to take religion into account!

Thanks to the Guardian and all those involved in releasing these vital documents. What more vivid exposure of what a 'moderate Palestinian leadership' or 'partner for peace' really is, nothing more than a leadership bending over backwards to meet Israel demands.

The sick joke is that Israel isn't content to have a Palestinian leadership legitimise her apartheid regime and great land robbery, it wants more.

Surely this leak benefits Israel:
-exposing Palestinian negotiating positions
-spreading further disunity amongst palestinians

How tragic. This will surely turn ordinary Palestinians and their Arab neighbours away from any any moderate leadership in future, and I doubt even the fiercest Western pressure will persuade Israel to recognise Hamas as a legitimate political body, leaving only yet more violence as the way ahead.

Why do western governments still support Israel, I wonder?

Appeasement of Israel is getting nowhere. Major and meaningful sanctions need to be put in place against this monstrosity and fast.
Israel's contempt for both her Palestinian neighbours and for international law is repugnant in the extreme and makes hypocrites of her western allies.

Perfidious Albion! - A friend of Israel ? -A nickname for Great Britain that is well deserved.

...when are people going to wake up to the fact that none of this stuff is even supposed to be resolved? The turmoil is being sustained to keep populations oppressed.
